I officially have a new favorite venue for weddings in Washington, DC. The Meridian House is a treasure, a hidden little enclave off of 15th St. NW. During Saturday’s serene, soulful wedding ceremony between Aubrey and David, you’d never know that across the street in Meridian Hill (Malcolm X) Park there were drum circles, Acro Yoga, and hundreds of city dwellers soaking in the last days of warmth before the coming winter.

Not only is the outdoor ceremony area spectacular, but there are English gardens for formal photographs, a perfect outdoor area flanked in trees and lined with convenient invisible wire for lanterns, flowing fabrics, hanging butterflies, or whatever else the DIY brides and grooms can think up, and a perfectly spectacular interior for reception, bar, and dancing.

On Saturday my fantastic second shooter, Abby Greenawalt, and I, photographed the wedding of Aubrey and David at the Meridian House. Aubrey and David are such lovely people, so relaxed and fun. They had a huge bridal party, all of whom were so sweet to Abby and I, and gave the funniest toasts (and a song) to the bride and groom! Despite an early mishap of forgetting her wedding shoes on the way to the venue, which would freak out any bride, Aubrey stayed super cool. She was an absolute vision in her dress from Hitched. And her toast to David was so beautiful, honoring him for “giving me the wedding of my dreams”.

I love this “first sight” shot between Aubrey and David.

I loved this simple and elegant idea! Table assignments written out on cards, and strung from wire between the trees out in the cocktail reception area.

Aubrey and David had a Persian wedding ceremony, with a table of offerings beyond anything I have seen!

Congratulations you two! Have an amazing time in Thailand!
